The Monash Chorale is a four part community choir of men and women, and welcomes new members.
Previous choral experience is an advantage but not essential. The same applies to the ability to read music, as we provide recordings to help members learn their parts.
We do not require prospective members to audition in order to join.
In normal years (sadly not the currrent situation!) we perform three main concerts each year, in May, August/September and December, often with soloists and a small orchestra or other instrumental groups. Guest soloists and orchestra members are often professional or semi-professional musicians. On occasions we join with another choir to present joint performances. In 2022 we performed a major concerts in June and plan a second for December, with a more casual concert in September..
Our fees are set to cover the costs of rehearsals and annual costs such as insurance and music licensing fees, and so are charged independently of whether or not the member decides to sing in the concerts. The fees for 2022 include an annual membership fee of $30 and term fees of $60 for each of the February to June and June to December rehearsal periods. Thus a full year's membership would cost $150.
Prospective members are encouraged to visit a rehearsal or two before deciding whether to join.
